the dogs

See those dogs?

They happen to live at Scrivener's Mews.

The little one's name is Pedro. Pedro is also a character in my forthcoming novel, Winger.

The big one is named Dublin, after one of my favorite cities in the world.

Last Friday, Pedro died. He was old and couldn't see, and made his way around by smell and sounds and by hanging around Dublin. Dublin has never been without Pedro for one day in his life, at least not since he was a very small puppy.

The thing that's most distressing about Pedro's passing is that Dublin has been beside himself with grief every day since we buried his friend. He cries every night and is terrified to be left alone in the dark.

I'm sure he'll get over it in time.

Pedro was a good dog, and I'm happy he got to be a source of inspiration for at least part of Winger. We all miss having him around.
